SQL Panel

The SQL panel is accessed by clicking the SQL expandable menu in Query Designer, and:

  • Aborts an actively-executing query.
  • Displays the SQL text to be executed for both a detail and a summary query.

The Query Designer saves the resized SQL panel to your personal settings file allowing you to retain the view every time you open a query.

Auto Generate Mode

By selecting the Auto Generated check box (selected by default), the system continually updates the text, to reflect modifications made in the visual layout.

Note: The Auto Generated check box is disabled when the Use Query Designer Object Security option in Application Configurator is enabled for the user, or if using JD Edwards security.

Manual Mode

If desired, SQL text may be manually entered, or the auto-generated SQL text may be manually modified. For example, manual entry is required for establishing a SHELL to process an external program (see SQL SHELL Function for more information).

  1. Unselect the Auto Generate check box.
  2. Any previously auto-generated SQL text is copied to the SQL text box. The Query Canvas and Field List grids are disabled.
  3. When the query is saved, the text currently displayed in the SQL text box will be the executed SQL statement.

Stored Procedure

A query may be used to process a stored procedure. This feature is only available if the user is authorized to execute stored procedures, the query has an Oracle or SQL Server connection type, and the query does not have any assigned tables.

  1. Create a new query, and select to use either an Oracle or SQL Server connection type.
  2. From the Add Tables panel, click the Stored Procedures tab, select the desired stored procedure, then click OK.
  3. The appropriate SQL text is displayed in the SQL panel, and the parameters in the parameter grid. The Auto Generated check box, and Query Canvas and Selected Fields grids are disabled.
